Hawkes Bay Residence
Located in the middle of a paddock, on a remote Hawkes Bay farm, this 278sqm home has been orientated to make the most of passive solar gain and protection from the prevailing winds.
Apart from a site visit leading up to the design process, the client and designer worked remotely to fine tune the client’s own design ideas into a cohesive, practical layout and elevations. The high semi-dominant roof line is in keeping with other barn structures on the site.
The client wanted an architectural solution for a single-level entry to give a sense of arrival; with large windows positioned directly opposite the front door, the space becomes both inviting and playful, with the views to the farm beyond.
Built by the client’s own builder, with architectural assistance provided remotely, the project was completed on time and within budget.
We used Dave Mcleod to design our new home in 2016. He did a wonderful job for us, and now we have the most beautiful family home to live in. The flow of the house is incredible, and the entrance area was so cleverly designed,it has made our home special!
Dave’s professionalism, his expertise, and his great communication skills via email and phone conversations, to complete the design from afar, was outstanding. He made the experience a pleasure, and I would happily work with Dave again.
